We are using Shaun Tan's 'The Viewer' to support our Writing. Today we captured photos of a 'restless sleep' which Tristan (the main character) has after seeing the images through the viewer he found.
We'll be posting more of our learning here and on our blogs.
Listen to Hati and Johan explain what they were doing in the photo below.
** Photo and audio to follow (the boys are working on it!)
We were a Year 5 & 6 class @ Hay Park School and we loved using digital tools for learning! Our kaiako were Mrs Kingston & Mrs Wright.

Stardome Visit and Rocket Launches!
Yesterday our McCahon Engineers were put to the test. A select group were put in charge of the design and construction of our rocket.
Each class had a rocket to build and there was a prize for the rocket that had the best design and the one that stayed in the air the longest - which we won! Our rocket stayed aloft a full .5 seconds than our closest rivals!
So great work Evanjaline, Arnav, Simeon and Nisha - Nisha was also our official photographer - more photos to come.

Community Day! Opening of our new Playgroup! Fundraising! Softball Coaching! What a day!
Today was a super busy day! We had our community day and opened our new playgroup for under 5s and softball too :)
Our stall 'SWEET AS' made a tidy profit - in part thanks to the spruiking skills of Jeanett, Ashlyn and Simeon!
Check out our stall sign - team effort! And with the wonderful Audrey who helped organise the
community event.
A huge thank you to Miss Kim who has a knack for making hokey pokey with a few capable assistants from our class.
We also have to thank Mrs Wright for her fudge making skills (they went like hotcakes!).
In class we also made coconut ice (in a range of colours, including Hay Park colours) and Bliss Balls.
If anyone is after recipes from the day, leave a comment and we'll post them for you.
We have more photos of the day to share, but in the mean time here's us at softball coaching today!

Reading in McCahon Class
We're loving our new learning space! The best part is that we can spread out through the makerspace and the new library when other classes aren't using it.
Below are a few photos Mrs Kingston snapped inbetween Reading Workshops.

Week One Done!
We've had a busy start to the year!
Miss Kim from Auckland University has joined us and will be with us in Week 2 and then 2 days a week for the rest of the term. We're lucky to have another teacher in our class who loves using digital learning tools as much as we do!
Here's a look at McCahon Class 2015.
We're in for an exciting year!

International Language Week Celebration and We Say Goodbye to Miss Drabble
What an awesome day @ HPS! We all looked amazing in our clothes representing our different cultures. Joshua won the prize for best dressed in McCahon Class (did Mrs Aikman get a photo Joshua?).
Sadly, we said goodbye to Miss Drabble :(
We surprised her with lots of pats on the back and a lot of love...and cake too :)
Miss Drabble worked really hard and taught us so much. Hopefully she will visit when she has time, though we know she will be very busy with university.
Below are some photos from today.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Wednesday's and PB4L
We love our Wednesday's when we get to work with the learners in Hanly and Frizzell class. This week we talked about how we can follow the Hay Park Way when playing in the playground.
We also recorded ourselves talking with our buddies - watch this space!
