2014 Year 6 Graduation Celebration

Yesterday we celebrated our Year 6s graduating from primary school.
They had a graduation afternoon tea with whanau and other people who have helped them achieve all that they have during their time at Hay Park School, and they also shared some of their favourite memories and how HPS is special to them.

Here is a link to the collaborative film we worked on together.

Tino pai rawa Year 6!

On a personal note, many of our Year 6s I have taught since they were Year 3...and some from Year 2! It has been a privilege to learn alongside such an amazing group of young people! I hope their intermediate schools realise just how lucky they are to have them next year.

To the HPS graduating class of 2014, you will be missed!
I wish you every luck next year and please take the time to pop in and say hi - I'd love you to stay in touch!

Athletics Day 2014

We had our school Athletics Day on Friday and we all came in our team colours.

Team Red were the winners on the day - but the highlight was definitely having our whanau there to cheer us along.

Carleece's Blog Post About the Ako Hiko Trust Launch (22 October 2014)

Hi,
Bloggers from all over the world!

Tonight kids from Hay Park School have been chosen to represent Hay Park School in the Ako HIko Launch. We have been given an opportunity to build up our confidence with a special person named Andrew Patterson, we asked him questions that we were not that sure about.

However in the end we got all our questions answered, we have been looking forward to this day ever since we got our notices, from our wonderful teachers who motivate us to come to school everyday!

Genius Hour with May Road School

On Tuesday last week we walked up to May Road School with Flox Class. We were pretty excited about the chance to work collaboratively with Room 15 and 14, but also really excited about making new friends!

Mrs Wright has made a short clip with some of the day's highlights.

International Language Week Celebration and We Say Goodbye to Miss Drabble

What an awesome day @ HPS! We all looked amazing in our clothes representing our different cultures. Joshua won the prize for best dressed in McCahon Class (did Mrs Aikman get a photo Joshua?).
Sadly, we said goodbye to Miss Drabble :(

We surprised her with lots of pats on the back and a lot of love...and cake too :)
Miss Drabble worked really hard and taught us so much. Hopefully she will visit when she has time, though we know she will be very busy with university.

Below are some photos from today.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Thermohaline Ocean Currents and Thinglink

We've been busy learning about Marine Habitats, Marine Life and have been on our first virtual field trip with LEARNZ. We learnt a lot about harbours and estuaries.

This is Aizizha's thinglink about thermohaline currents.

McCahon has been using Thinglink for our learning, it's awesome! And you can add so much of your work into only one interactive image.
We have also been learning about Ocean Currents. This is what we have found-
  • Cold, salty water is denser and heavier than warm or cold freshwater.
  • That surface tension is the thing that holds small insects that can walk on water.
  • We have also found a word which is Thermohaline it means currents caused by salt and temperature.

Soccer - Session 1

This term we are playing Soccer, thanks to Sport Auckland, and on Friday we had our first session with Coach Courtney. Even though it rained and we had to run for shelter a few times, we had a great time playing 5 a side games. We are looking forward to improving our ball control skills.

Pixiclip and Maths Strategy

Today we are learning how to use Pixiclip as a way of capturing our learning. Here is Evanjaline's first ever go! You will be able to see more of our learning by looking at our individual blogs.

SODA: Life Vest Inside Kindness Video

Today our SODA (start of day activity) was to watch a video clip, identify the key idea and show we understood the  key idea by listing 2 things we would do today.

You can see our thinking in the Padlet below.

Goal Setting with our Whanau!

Tomorrow is goal setting with our whanau. We are looking forward to the opportunity to share our learning goals with our families. We're in the process of uploading our presentations to our blogs so we can share our goals with those who can't make the conferences!

Here is the very talented Faith and her welcome to her family! We think Faith could end up on tv some day!

Softball Coaching: Session 2 photos

Working on our individual blogs!

Thanks to two of our Chrome Ninjas, Rose and Ezekiel who helped many of us with our first blog post on Friday!
You'll be able to access our individual blogs from here. We're pretty excited about sharing our learning with the world!

Wednesday, 26 March 2014

Thanks to all our whanau who came to our first parent workshop tonight! We shared some of the work we have done and showed our family some of the key websites we use to support our learning. We really enjoyed ourselves!

Softball

We are improving our Softball with the coaches from Auckland Softball. They are teaching us heaps of new skills. For example, when you are fielding from the ground you have to be a "Monkeydile"! This means that you have your body and your arms hanging down like a monkey, but you snap your hands together like a crocodile to catch the ball.  Some McCahon Learners are going to represent Hay Park School in a tournament soon and have been doing extra practice at lunchtimes.

Wednesday's and PB4L

We love our Wednesday's when we get to work with the learners in Hanly and Frizzell class. This week we talked about how we can follow the Hay Park Way when playing in the playground. We also recorded ourselves talking with our buddies - watch this space!

We've worked on using Google Drawing to share information about ourselves. This is Rose's effort!
