Week 5: eLearning Parent Workshops (Ako Hiko)

Kia ora whānau!
This week we had our parent workshops which is one of the steps needed so we can take our Chromebooks home - thank you to all who came!
We had a challenge for our parents which they had to complete without any technology - it was pretty tricky!
The key message was about actively monitoring us when we're using any digital device and talking to us about what we are doing online.

  1. Kia Ora Mrs Kingston,
This so cool! Magisto is such a cool app! I think my Mum's favourite part of the whole workshop was the challenge. That was very challenging for her, the best thing for me was the Kahoot quiz! My favourite was when I eventually got to take my Chromie home. I loved the workshop. What was your favourite part Mrs Kingston?

    1. Kia ora Evanjaline,
I thought the challenge was fun! I think our parents have seen that digital devices/the Internet are key for our learning. I'm glad you had a good time too.
I think our next step is to have students running parts of the workshops. What do you think?

    2. Hi Mrs Kingston,
That is an awesome idea. We could have turns hosting and speaking! We could also make our own Kahoot Quiz! Just thinking about it is making me excited! Cannot wait till the next workshop. Do you think students from school would volunteer?

  2. Hi Mrs Kingston,
I love the photos you have put into the Magisto!, also I agree with Evanjaline it is a cool app to use to make short movies. But the part I was laughing at was when I was pointing at the TV because my Dad won the first Kahoot question. But I was wondering something, did you have fun at the workshop?

Thanks for your help with finding the missing Symbaloo tile! :)

I had fun at the workshop - definitely. Did Dad like the quiz? He was pretty fast at answering the questions!

    2. Hi Mrs Kingston,
I asked my Dad if he really liked Kahoot and he said Yes. Also me and my Dad agreed that after S.O.D.A could we always do A Kahoot for extra S.O.D.A?.

I think that is a great idea for SODA! Perhaps you could make a quiz for us to do?

  3. Hey Mrs Kingston,
It is so cool. Magisto might be my favourite movie creating app. I really enjoyed the Kahoot challenge. My Dad was really impressed when he came first for the 1st question. I really liked the workshop. What was your favourite thing?

    1. Kia ora Lyle,
Magisto is my new favourite app. I think we should see if we can get it on our iPads that way you guys can use it for your blogs. Can you remind me about that next week?
My favourite part was probably the challenge - it made people think and parents had to collaborate. I thought you kids did really well too!

  4. Hi Mrs Kingston,

Thanks for running such a great workshop with me. I really enjoyed seeing the families working together, both with their children and with each other. I can't wait to have a go with Magisto. It looks like such a great app.

    Have a great weekend.

  5. Hi Mrs Kinston
The workshop looked pretty fun. Was it just like the one we had Tuesday? If it was I'm sure all the parents had fun. Magisto REALLY AWESOME I JUST DOWNLOADED IT! Can you teach me some tips and tricks of how to use because I'm a noobie.

The Friday workshop was just the same as Tuesday night's. I am glad you're having a play with Magisto!
We can catch up on Monday and look at how to use it. But I really think that by then you will have it sorted!

  6. Hi Mrs Kingston,
The best part of the workshop for my Mum was that she liked the challenge. The reason why she liked the challenge was because she got to meet and work with other students parents and get to know them more. But she just didn't like it how they had to go to the library and look for the countries. She said that she wanted to come and help me and my group, but then we finished off with the nice game that she came fourth.

    Thank,
    Ashlyn

I think it's great that your Mum enjoyed working with the other parents. I would like to see more opportunities for that to happen!
I understand why Mum would have wanted to be with your group - it looked like you were all having fun!
